Decisions
So, I need some help. We are looking into making a big purchase...I think only the second in our entire life of being married (next to house and car)...we are thinking about getting a new washer and dryer. OK, so that may not seem like a big purchase to most of you, but the only item in our house that we have bought new is our bed, everything else is a hand-me-down, garage sale, "just get rid of this" kind of item. Yes, we have been married for almost 9 years and are still living off seconds. Anyway back to the subject, I need some help. I don't make decisions well and need some advice on what you are using. Let me know what you like, don't like, couldn't live without, steer clear from, isn't worth it, you know what I mean. Thanks, when the big day comes and I've made my decision, I'll let you know!

We bought our washer and dryer when we built our house ( our first big appliance purchase). After much investigating and reading reviews we bought the Kenmore elite HE4t. The thing that I LOVE about them is that when the wash cycle is done, the clothes are spun so well that the dry time is so much less. Very efficient! I can also wash 7-8 pairs of my husbands jeans in 1 cycle and 23 or so towels at a time. There is also a sanitary cycle, a kids wear cycle, a cycle for bedding....etc. I also LOVE that they come in such cool colors. We have the burnt orange color, my parents have the red ones and my brother just purchased them in champane. I LOVE THEM!!
We have an Amana W/D. They are 5 years old and we just had the repair man out here last week for the 3rd time! I don't know if that is good or bad, but I'm sick of having to have them repaired. Next time I'm getting a Maytag front loader...maybe. Mike's mom has them and LOVES them. The thing is, I don't think that they hold as much. We did laundry over there the other day and I had to do four loads in hers, when I can usually wash the same amount in mine in 2 loads. I don't know what to tell ya. Good luck with that! :)
I'm glad to hear Rusty made it back safely. Sad that we didn't get to hang out. Guess I'm just not cool enough.
We just bought our first washer & dryer two years ago. We ended up getting some "Bosch Nexxt" ones and we love them. What helped me the most was looking at the Consumer Reports. Those guys are paid to put stuff through the ringer and test it out for you. Even if you don't want to buy the washer/dryer issue, you can ask the sales people and they should know the top 10 brands. Good luck! It's an important investment...hopefully you'll have it for at least 20 years.
I'm glad your lil' family is safe and reunited!
Hey Anne! We have always had a cheapo washer/dryer through our marriage. But this last time after having gone through 3 washers to one dryer we bought a nicer one. We still didn't have the money to get the kind I really want but we got a heck of a deal at the RC Willey Outlet. We got an $800 washer for $250!All through sales and discounts for being energy efficient. I say front loaders are where it's at! I love it! Best of luck, there are a lot of great choices out there.
I'm with Jensa about doing the research with Consumer Reports. I've had my washer and dryer for over 10 years, mine is a Maytag, which I have been very happy with. There are so many new things that have come out there now. It's kind of exciting in a weird sort of a way. I mean it is a big decision. I don't know about you, but I seriously do spend a lot of time doing laundry over the course of a year- or 10. Those have some serious miles on them. So, of course it's a big decision. Glad you guys are all together. It was so good to see you. You'll have to send me a copy of the photo of us. I couldn't get it to upload to a normal size so I could download it onto my computer.
Anne - I know how you feel. Our washer and dryer were given to us when we were married by a family that were getting rid of them. Now, seven years later we still have them. The spin cycle does more rattling than spinninig, but they have to make it through orthodontic school because we can't afford to replace them. So, when you find the perfect washer and dryer, let me know because hopefully in about four years we can get new ones. I'm holding my breath that they last that long...
Definitely a front load. They wash so much better. I don't have one yet, but I am currently trying to break mine so I can have one! Haha anyway they are the best. Can I have your choc chip cookie recipe?
We want to get the Bosch ones next. Mostly because TJ uses their power tools and is very impressed by them. He said if they can make good power tools then the washer and dryer should be good too. I know it isn't much of an eductated opinion.
I have the Bosch Nexxt as well and LOVE it!! You are good to do a little research before you buy. I walked into the store and picked them on a whim. They have been worth the money and wash really well. (very important when your kids are as messy as mine!)
